St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Sunday School
- “aims to help children discover and enjoy the presence of Someone in their lives,”* Someone who is searching for them because He loves them.
- “encourages reverence for the Bible and the liturgy as ways in which God talks to us.”*
- uses sensorial and practical life activities.
- includes arts & crafts projects, music time.
- teaches children to pray using the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be.
- provides enrichment materials for kindergartners and take-home materials for parents to reinforce lessons at home.
- involves parents as either teachers or parent helpers.
*Quotations are from The Good Shepherd and the Child, A Joyful Journey, by Sofia Cavalletti et al. The book describes the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, upon which our program is based.
We in the program feel that the period of 3-6 years of age is a very creative one in a child’s life, and it is critical to begin spiritual formation so that the child can enjoy the presence of God. Children this age are able to give themselves totally to God’s love, and this relationship helps form them.
We believe that out of this “being with God” the children acquire their fundamental attitude towards life, which leads to the “doing” or behavioral level of moral formation which occurs after age 6.
Keeping in mind that Jesus said we are to be like little children to enter the kingdom of God, we feel our students have something to teach us, too!

Sunday School Teachers
The Sunday School staff is made up entirely of volunteers who give generously of their time. The teachers come from a wide range of backgrounds. Some are parents of students; some do not have children in the program. We have adults and high school age teachers working in teams of 2 to 4 people, depending on class size. Eighth graders preparing for Confirmation may also assist. Teaching requires time commitments of 1-2 hours for training and 1 hour of teaching on 15 alternating weekends. Teachers are provided with easy-to-follow lesson plans.
New teachers are always needed to keep the Sunday School program moving forward. Please give this ministry some careful and prayerful thought. No teaching experience is necessary, only the love of children and a willingness to share some time. If you are interested please contact Jeanne Schulte 402-496-1790 spicierlife@cox.net for more information.
